Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I realized my life was shifting and it was time to make some changes. It was time to take care of myself and SloBody really resonated with me.

What results have you received since starting?

There are just so many benefits for me - I’m stronger. I’m carrying myself better and my neck has more range of motion. My headaches are getting a little less as my neck is feeling better. I’m sleeping better.

What do you like best about our program?

It’s hard to just pinpoint one: the studio is a pleasant environment; it’s relaxing, strengthening…it’s the whole package. It’s convenient.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

This is the most unique program I’ve ever been done and you must try it for the benefits. I recommend it to my friends because I feel like anything you can do to focus on yourself and learn proper techniques will help. You’ll fall in love with it.

Sylvie Bergeron

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

Playing Tennis is a passion! I wanted to be able to play injury free and pain free too.

I felt like I had reached a plateau with my previous forms of training and exercises. My lower back was fragile and my knees and feet hurt. My goals were to get stronger and fitter, and increase my flexibility and muscle tone.

What results have you received since starting?

I stand taller, my legs feel stronger and I have more flexibility.  No more heel pain.  My upper body strength has definitely improved; my upper back is more open and I have more power when I hit the ball.

What do you like best about our program?

1) That it is taught by athletes who understand the demands of certain sports and activities on “aging” bodies. And, 2) the classes are small so the teaching is personalized.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

Go ahead and try it!  You won’t regret it.  I also recommend some private lessons to learn how to do some basic exercises correctly, within the capacities of your body, with the right amendments.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I came in the summer and felt great. When I quit, I felt horrible; combination of no exercise and stress of work, so I decided since I was retiring I would come back.

What results have you received since starting?

I felt great about myself. I’m back to playing golf. Now I have a lot more energy, I feel more confident, I don’t drink as much. My whole mentality has changed entirely. I feel wonderful

What do you like best about our program?

I like it because it combines strength training, which I like, it makes me sweat so I’m getting my cardio and I like that they’re small classes and that everybody’s very friendly. You know the people in class. The instructors know you and you know everybody else.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

I would say join! I was on the fence but it’s worth it jumping in. You’ll feel awesome. I said to my son, who is a trainer, I’m actually getting addicted to exercise which I never thought would happen in my entire life.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I thought this sounds really different and I’d go check it out for me but also for my husband who just had a hip replacement.

I was totally impressed from the get-go; the depth of the knowledge that you have, after I took the first class I knew my husband could absolutely go here.

What results have you received since starting?

I have more stamina and strength. I can do push-ups now and my shoulders are more stable. My flexibility has increased and even mentally it’s so relaxing. The whole breathing component. It’s really helped to slow me down. It’s very calming, it’s very relaxing.

What do you like best about our program?

Everyone is so supportive of everyone else, nobody looks down on anybody else. I can’t say enough about it. I love coming here!

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

Absolutely go for it! There’s nothing to lose. Whether you are super fit or you are just starting out or you have an injury you can get what you need here.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I started at SloBody because I hurt everywhere from my head to my toes.

What results have you received since starting?

My neck and shoulders don’t hurt very much anymore. My fingers aren’t numb from pinched nerves. My sciatica feels so much better which means the power is back in my legs. My tennis is on track again.

What do you like best about our program?

I’m addicted to the stretch. It makes me feel tall. I’m so grateful for all of this and for the amazingly nice people I see there every time I go.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

1. Even though I keep telling Kirk that I don’t have any ab muscles or any pec(toral) muscles, he insists that I do. He makes me feel like I have a 6 pack.

2. In a private training session with Janine, she told me to relax my shoulders. I blurted out that if I did my family would fall apart. With a leap of faith, I released my shoulders and crazy enough, my family is fine. She makes me feel safe.

3. The SloBody community is fun, supportive, insightful and wise. I’ve brought some of my favorite friends there and met many new ones. They make me feel strong.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

Although I play tennis 5x a week I felt something was lacking. My flexibility and balance needed improvement.

What results have you received since starting?

I’m much more flexible, core is stronger and I have less lower back pain. As a tennis player, I’m moving much easier on the court; getting to more balls than before and my movements and responses are faster. I was always aggressive but now have more confidence in my ability to get to shots I might not have reached before.

What do you like best about our program?

SloBody instructors are very encouraging and you receive personal, one on one instruction in the intimate group setting.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

I was on the fence when I first joined, but after the very first class I was addicted! The staff and clients are all welcoming and nonjudgmental. You also see results in strength, balance and flexibility fairly quickly if you make a commitment.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I looked you up online and thought it looks like something for me. I pulled the trigger right there, and made the appointment the next day. I was in bad shape.

What results have you received since starting?

I now think more about why this muscle hurts, why this muscle’s pulling. I have scoliosis, and I notice I’ve pulled my waist up, lengthened my body and I’m standing different. I’m not hunching my shoulders. In the grocery store, I can bend down and get something from the low shelf without using my grocery cart to get back up anymore! I’m not wearing a large yoga pant or a large t-shirt anymore, I’m wearing a medium.

What do you like best about our program?

I would say coming to a new place can be intimidating, especially if you’re out of shape or overweight. You’re embarrassed. It’s not intimidating. It really doesn’t exist in this set-up here. The warmth is great, you fit right in. Whether you’re good or not, there’s all walks of life.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

There’s no reason why somebody shouldn’t try it. I’m just a happy camper, I really am.

Heidi Sperounis

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I was on Summer Vacation from teaching dance and I was trying to keep my body in some sort of dancer condition so I can stay healthy. I came across the article for SloBody opening and I thought oh this looks fun, this looks right up my alley, I’d like to try this out, so I came for the grand opening- the very first class.

What results have you received since starting?

One of the biggest things is that the flairs in my lower back, the time between flairs has been so much greater, and if it does want to flair I know how stop it. I know how to control it. Which is huge.

My body has changed quite a bit. Just in the sense of restructuring through the musculature in the body. I’ve been able to lengthen a lot more through my thighs, my legs and really through my whole body.

What do you like best about our program?

SloBody has created a really great community of people. It’s a lot fun to be around people in the class. Both Kirk and Janine are hysterical, they are very funny, they really make class very enjoyable. It just really lets my body work the way it needs to work.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

Try it. Definitely give it a try. Your body will change. You will strengthen, you will lengthen and you will open your body.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I have been racing sports cars for over 20 years. A professional race took an extra toll on me resulted in Sciatic pain, hip pain and my right wrist was badly swollen.

What results have you received since starting?

I no longer suffer any back pain at all. I can lift just about anything and not worry about destroying my back. I can now start racing again too.

What do you like best about our program?

I wanted athletic inspired Yoga so that I could solve my back and hip problems and get back to racing and just feeling better overall.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

There's no better time than now! Yoga, in all of it's various forms, has been practiced for centuries, some claim that it was first noted almost 2000 years ago. That should resonate for you because it simply proves that Yoga is an ageless mind and body discipline that can vastly improve your health and every aspect of your life.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I researched Janine and Kirk and decided those were the only people that were capable and willing to start me on a recovery program from my core out.

What results have you received since starting?

They’ve taught me a new level of mindfulness with movement patterns that’s helped me physically and mentally. It acts as a constant meditation. My pain used to be an 8 out of 10. Debilitating where I couldn’t even get up for days on end. Now it’s about 2-3. It’s constantly improving.

What do you like best about our program?

The individual attention that you get in both the group and private classes. Their attention to detail and focus is much greater than any other program I’ve ever encountered.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

It’s more than beneficial to take a 3-month package with some private and group classes. It will give you a full experience and understanding of what they do here. In 90 days, you will be able to completely assess how it benefits your body. It’s a small commitment and well worth it.

I was totally overwhelmed, trying to balance being a caregiver for my Mother and work. I knew that I needed to take time to focus on my health and well-being.

Although it has been a challenging year, I feel like a different person. My stress levels have decreased dramatically, my balance and flexibility have greatly improved.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?
I needed a program because my body was revolting on me. I pretty much hurt from my feet hitting the floor in the morning till I laid down at night.  I have neck and back problems, plantar fasciitis, Achilles' tendon problems, and fibromyalgia along with a host of other chronic pain.

What results have you received since starting?
When I started I could not touch my toes and was at the chiropractor 2x per week. Now I see the chiropractor once a month! And I can do more than touch my toes, my balance has improved, and I can do downward dog (which took about 6 weeks to do). I am confident as I continue to practice and workout with my friends from SloBody there is nothing I can not accomplish.

What do you like best about our program?
There is no judgement - I am a curvy woman and some things are harder for me to do.  My classmates are friendly, and Kirk and Janine always have something positive to say to me as I come in...during...and at the end of the class. They care about me, and I find that refreshing in today's world.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?
If I can do it... so can anyone else. This is the 1st workout program I have not quit.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

This year I turned 60 and wanted to test myself and see if I could run a marathon again.

What results have you received since starting?

My biggest tangible achievement was finishing the New York Marathon without injury.  Through working with Kirk and Janine I have seen clear improvement in my flexibility, balance, and core strength.

What do you like best about our program?

I like the small class size and individual attention.  Kirk and Janine are very knowledgeable about physiology, biomechanics, and exercise science. They took the time to learn my individual issues and provide me with customized solutions that resulted in me being able to finish the marathon without getting injured during training or in the race itself.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

The program is excellent for someone who wants a more personalized, “boutique” type of fitness experience.

Janet Ireland

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I had been feeling sluggish and uninspired. Plantar fasciitis had ended my 30 years of Jazzercise classes.

What results have you received since starting?

My pain from plantar fasciitis is gone! I have ease of movement so I can keep up with young grandkids, and…balance on a ladder while hanging art for clients! I have more strength, agility, and feel better in general. I have tightened up my belly, which I was beginning to believe was just an unmanageable part of my body!

What do you like best about our program?

I love the effective, personal coaching in a small group setting.

Just go for it! Because of the personal attention that SloBody instructors give to their clients, the program is safe for people who have had sports injuries, surgeries or who need a meaningful exercise experience to stay healthy for life!

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

After being temporarily sidelined with a few nagging injuries, I realized that I needed to incorporate some type of stretching routine into my weekly workouts and knew that the likelihood of this happening would increase dramatically if I committed to a studio or gym or class of some kind.

What results have you received since starting?

I have noticed an increase in overall flexibility and range of joint motion, more awareness of my posture and my balance has improved immensely. I worked through a new injury recently and class helped quiet many of the negative thoughts about my injury and allowed me to focus on healing and getting stronger.

What do you like best about our program?

The classes have always been fun right from the beginning. Janine and Kirk each have a good sense of humor, which was helpful as I felt like a fish out of water in a yoga environment. Classes at SloBody are lively, with plenty of positive instruction and 'live feedback' is actively encouraged.

SloBody also manages to make a group class feel like a private lesson. They offer variations for every pose to suit every level. They know their clients' strengths and weaknesses and so push each of us to, but not past, our individual limits.

Allison Hansen

What made you decide to start a program at SloBody?
I had been doing Orange Theory and kept injuring myself. I developed tendinitis in both elbows, piriformis syndrome on my right side and had a chronic neck/shoulder issue that would flare up after vinyasa yoga.

What results have you received since starting?

I've reached several goals at SloBody. 1) My piriformis syndrome and tendinitis are gone. 2) Janine has been working with me 1:1 to build strength and stamina without aggravating my neck & shoulder. It’s working!! I was unable to do a plank position when we started. Now I’m not only doing plank, I’m working on mountain climbers. 3) I'm much stronger overall and my husband says I have "buns of steel"!

SloBody has given me personalized attention and continuous challenges. I also appreciate the "homework" and the accountability.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?
Pain was the main motivator in getting me to try SloBody. I had tried other methods of Yoga, Pilates and Barre, and I always re-injured my back. After trying the first free week I had seen on Facebook I committed to 3 months and after that I committed to 6 months and added private training with Janine too.( My daughter’s upcoming wedding had a lot to do with my desire to take private lessons and speed up the toning process 😊)

What results have you received since starting?
Amazingly my back pain has gone from an 8 (on a scale of 1-10) to a 3. And then I noticed how much stronger I felt, how much better my clothes fit and how much more energy I had.

What do you like best about our program?
I love how welcoming and friendly Kirk, Janine and Heidi are as well as the other clients. I always walk out of a session feeling better (even if my legs are shaky and feel like jello) and more energized than when I walked in.

Don’t hesitate just attend class and keeping coming, you will notice good changes in your body quicker than you think. You have everything to gain!

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I’m not a gym person and I don’t like circuit training. I have had too many injuries over the years and couldn’t keep up. I liked the idea of the yoga with conditioning and I was ready for a change.

What results have you received since starting?

I am a lot more flexible and I’m standing up straight!! I feel stronger throughout my body, am more toned and I’m sleeping better.

What do you like best about our program?

I like the small class size. The instructors make sure we get the full benefit in a way as to not get injured. I sometimes think they have eyes in the back of their heads!! They are extremely knowledge which helps me understand how all the positions/conditioning can help me get fit. We laugh allot & commiserate together! Especially when it comes to conditioning classes.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

To take charge of my life and to live my life. I was really, really suffering debilitating pain and general malaise and I kept trying to move and things just kept getting worse and worse. That’s when I came to SloBody.

What results have you received since starting?

Well let’s talk head to toe. Besides weight loss (35 lbs so far!) Strength – my chest, arms, back, core and legs. My posture improved that’s huge. I can walk instead of shuffling! It was torture to walk my dogs. It was hard to get up out of a chair, now I get up without creaking. Some days I couldn’t take the stairs, now I fly up them!

What do you like best about our program?

I really like how you work with everyone one-on-one even in a group setting. You understand this is a process, push the right amount and it’s always okay to come out of a position and adapt for your body.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

You must invest in yourself. It’s so worth it. I am a completely different person. Anybody who says oh, I can’t do this, I can’t do that…just look at me.

I wanted to feel stronger, like I could win in a fight!

After 1 year, what keeps you coming back?
I keep coming back because SloBody provides me with an experience that enhances my life. To me, SloBody's approach is focused on living, rather than having. You can go anywhere to have a great body and lose weight, or gain strength - whatever your goals are, but SloBody provides a unique experience unlike any other gym or studio in Delray Beach (trust me I've tried all of them). Attaining fitness goals is important, but surrounding myself with good people is more important. I can do both at SloBody.

What do you like best about our program?
I can't say enough about how happy I am training at SloBody! The workouts are yoga based, so I'm never lifting anything that's not purely my own body weight, or moving in a way that feels forced or ridiculous. The entire experience feels very authentic, and has helped me manage my stress at work as well as eliminate one or two self-destructive habits, and has helped me manage my stress at work as well as eliminate one or two self-destructive habits.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?
You’re either going to get in shape, or you’re not. If you’re ready to commit to making it happen, SloBody will get you there. Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I was bored with gyms and other programs and looking for something more challenging for my body. I was impressed with Janine and Kirk and their commitment to making our total body stronger.

What results have you received since starting?

I'm building strength using my own body. I love the stretching, I can feel and see the difference in the shape of my body. I feel more relaxed.

What do you like best about our program?

I like the knowledge imparted to each of us about improving our body. Kirk and Janine are so positive always motivating us to improve and try new challenges.

Their program has given me hope. I’m a runner who suffered through two years of pain from a foot and leg injury. Do it and you’ll improve.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I felt like it was an answer to prayer, honestly. I had been encouraged by the acupuncturist to get into yoga and I was hesitant to do so but after reading an article in the paper with Kirk and Janine it just sounded like a perfect fit for me.

What results have you received since starting?

Where do I start? I am stronger, I am more flexible, I am without pain, I just feel amazing. Absolutely amazing.

What do you like best about our program?

I like the fact that it feels like you do have a personal trainer because they are just so in tune to every little nuance and they are able to see if you are missing that position even by a quarter of an inch and they are able to help you make that adjustment.

What do you have to lose? There’s so many pluses. On top of all the health benefits, it just feels like family. You have a very neat group here. They are wonderful, they are very personable. It’s just feels like family.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I felt like I was getting old. In the morning, I’d put my feet on the floor and it would hurt. Getting up and down from a bench or a chair, I would push myself up. I didn’t feel like I had any strength. I’ve always been an athlete; I’ve always been fit. I felt like I should get back into it.

What results have you received since starting?

I feel better mentally and physically. When I first started I thought I would never be able to do this. Then last week I did it. And I was like wow! I can do this. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment.

What do you like best about our program?

You’re in a group but you feel like you’re being trained individually. You know our little ailments, aches and pains, and you work around them. And I love the humor. It’s hysterical. I die laughing sometimes.

You must be ready, you have to want to commit. Once you do, you’re going to get so much out of it and love it.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?
Plagued by "fallout" from successive injuries, I wanted to ramp up my workouts to regain my previous strength and fitness levels. Also, my vainer self was motivated to get in better shape for my son's upcoming wedding. I gave myself this gift with the goal of 6 months. Mama wanted to look good in her dress! 😊

What results have you received since starting?
Since starting my program, I feel stronger and more fit, for sure. My endurance has increased, and I can hold challenging poses for longer with greater ease. I also practice Kundalini yoga, which can be quite vigorous, and I have more stamina when I practice. And, I'm happy to say, my dress was a little loose on the big day!

What do you like best about our program?
I really appreciate the thoughtful attention to detail at SloBody, and the humorous encouragement to keep at it!

If you're willing to do the work and stick with it, join! It's well worth it.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

My father suffered a stroke requiring me to retire and care for him full-time.  I was invited to attend by my dear friend who knows my greatest challenge is finding time for myself.  The first time I entered the door at SloBody, I knew it was a special place!

What results have you received since starting?

Increased confidence and discipline. Increased strength and flexibility.  As a cancer survivor, with a compromised immune system, I now have asthma. SloBody has helped improve my pulmonary function by 30%.

What do you like best about our program?

The non-judgmental and supportive environment and an encouraging staff who believes in me and my potential to continue growing.

Do it. SloBody is the gift I give to myself.

Lauren Palmieri

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I wasn’t feeling good about myself.  A dancer my whole life, I had two torn and herniated discs that made simple movement and exercise nearly impossible.  I was the heaviest I had ever been but was afraid to do anything because I didn’t want to hurt myself again.

What results have you received since starting?

I’ve lost ten pounds increased my flexibility even more than when I was dancing daily, but most importantly, I have regained the confidence to not only go through my day to day but even return to dance classes!

What do you like best about our program?

My favorite thing about SloBody is how safe I feel there.  I know in Kirk and Janine’s hands I will get the best workout possible, without injury.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

If you’re looking to build a solid practice this is the place to go! They’ve taught me things about my alignment and how to use muscles in my body that teachers in my 20+ years of dance did not. They’ve been by far the most knowledgeable, experienced, observant and dedicated teachers I’ve ever had.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I decided to go to SLOBODY following an injury to my neck while training. After 40 years of running, this injury made me even more stiff and inflexible. It was impossible to do even simple things like bending down, tying my shoes, turning my head, swinging a golf club, etc.

What results have you received since starting?

Since experiencing the intensity of twice a week workouts with Kirk, I am more flexible, have less pain and more range of motion.

What do you like best about our program?

My workouts here are difficult and challenging but leave me feeling great. I really like and am amazed at the always changing ways my body can be twisted, stretched, bent and strengthened.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

If you think you need it, you do! This program is not just helpful but necessary for anyone who is getting older and wants to retain the ability to train and move through daily life injury free.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

After a friend brought me to a class, I saw and felt results immediately in my hips and with my shoulder.  I have always had very tight hip joints and a replacement shoulder for 15 years.

What results have you received since starting?

Range of motion in my arm and shoulder is increasing with every class, and what I considered normal resting pain in my shoulder is 90% gone.

What do you like best about our program?

The philosophy behind SloBody. The individual attention every one receives in a class no matter how big or small. The time spent in each posture to open up the joints and stretch the ligament, tendons and muscles. And best of all the other students… everyone is like family.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

Just do it.  Give it a try and then become committed to results and follow that path. Your physical and mental life will change.

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I’d had chronic back spasms over the years, but a particularly acute incident left me unable to walk without pain. Friends who had begun to practice at SloBody saw me in a golf event and recommended that I visit SloBody.

What results have you received since starting?

I’m more flexible and stronger.  My back spasms are of less intensity and they don’t linger.  And I feel a lot better about my health generally — it’s nice to stand up straight!

What do you like best about our program?

SloBody is the best fitness program with which I have ever worked.  No weights. No machines. No hokey-pokey.  I’m challenged at every session and I walk out of the studio looking forward to my next workout.  Kirk and Janine mix high expectations with precise instruction and great humor.  And, the program has allowed me to play golf without pain and the fear of impending pain.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

When my friends first suggested SloBody, I was skeptical.  But I was desperate and willing to try anything to feel better and to protect against future problems.  It has been a great decision in every respect.  While I have a long way to go, it is really quite amazing how much more flexible I’ve become over the course of a year.  Kirk often comments that we’re allowing my body to work again the way it is supposed to work. Wow!

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?

I’ve been doing Pilates and wanted to get into a yoga based program. I was looking for something to slow me down, help me relax and stay injury free. My friend, Betty Ackerman, strongly recommended SloBody.

What results have you received since starting?

Increased strength and flexibility not to mention I have gotten very good at aggravating Kirk and Janine! Seriously though, when I’m in my other exercise classes I notice that I am stronger and I’ve especially noticed my arms are more toned. And who doesn’t love that?!

What do you like best about our program?

I appreciate the individualized attention I get in a small studio setting. I wouldn't go to a place with large impersonal classes.  Both Kirk and Janine are very knowledgeable about the workings of the body and exercise and fitness.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

Why’d you decide to start a program at SloBody?
I have stenosis of the spine and have experienced herniated disks and sciatic (owee!).  Along with osteoporosis, high blood pressure and lipid numbers heading in the wrong direction. It was TIME for me to walk the talk.  As a senior citizen, I was afraid of winding up where I was heading!

What results have you received since starting?
Gosh, where to start! I have slimmed down and toned up. I am pulling jeans out of the back of the closet I have not worn in years - this makes me very happy. 😊
My sense of well-being has improved to where I feel more relaxed, less stressed because I am breathing deeply & slowly and feeling empowered instead of overwhelmed.

What do you like best about our program?
You never experience the same routine twice!  Always a new and interesting protocol made fun and do-able at every level by the owners and staff of SloBody.
